SAFEchild Programming Volunteers (In-person)
We are seeking dedicated, community-focused individuals and groups to support children and families through SAFEchild programs.
Children’s Program Volunteers
Assist with activities and supervision for children while caregivers participate in parenting classes, support groups, or other SAFEchild programs. Volunteers typically serve once per week for 2–3 hours during daytime or evening programming.
Spanish Program Volunteers
Support our Spanish-language parenting programs, including Crianza con Cariño and other family education programs. Volunteers should be available on Tuesday or Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Spanish proficiency is preferred.
Advocacy Center Volunteers
Volunteers with daytime availability for morning or afternoon shifts who help create a welcoming and supportive environment for children and families visiting the SAFEchild Advocacy Center. Volunteers provide family support and help ensure visitors feel comfortable and cared for during their visit. Compassion, reliability, and professionalism are essential for this role.
Greeters and Administrative Volunteers
Welcome families and visitors, direct them to the appropriate staff member, and assist with light administrative tasks. Volunteers typically serve one morning or afternoon per week for approximately 2 hours.
SAFEchild volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday only. We are not open on weekends.
All program volunteers must:
Be at least 18 years old
Attend a volunteer orientation/training session
Complete a no-cost background check
Complete the Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina online training on recognizing and responding to child abuse
Please note that SAFEchild does not offer volunteer opportunities for court-ordered or mandated community service.
Flexible daytime and evening volunteer opportunities are available.

SAFEchild General Volunteers (Remote)
Algunas de las oportunidades de voluntariado más significativas de SAFEchild, tanto para grupos como para particulares, consisten en ayudar desde casa o desde la oficina.
- Create cozy “comfort capes” (no-sew fleece blankets) for the children evaluated in the SAFEchild Advocacy Center. We rely on our wonderful individual and group volunteers to make these easy-to-assemble blankets for us! Instructions are here.
- Assemble peanut-free snack packages containing individually wrapped snacks for parents and children attending our programs. Instructions are here.
- Knit or crochet a purple cap for a newborn. These sweet caps become part of a care basket given to new mothers joining our Moms Supporting Moms programs and serve as a reminder of the Period of PURPLE Crying. Find instructions for creating the caps here.
- Hold a supply drive for SAFEchild. We need paper products, cleaning supplies and certain children’s and (caregivers’) books and games. Find more information on our wish list page.
- Sponsor group meals by preparing or donating meals for the children and families who attend our weekly programming groups. All meals should be peanut-free.
