Purpose
The SAFEchild Legacy Council is an advisory and ambassador group composed of former Board executive leaders and long-time champions whose leadership helped shape SAFEchild over nearly three decades.
Why This Council Exists
SAFEchild’s impact today reflects the dedication of leaders who guided the organization through its early years, growth, and evolution. Many of those individuals remain deeply connected to SAFEchild’s mission but no longer serve in formal governance roles.
The Legacy Council provides a meaningful way to remain engaged; honoring past leadership while helping ensure SAFEchild’s continued strength and stability for the children and families we serve.
What The Council Will Do
Members will serve as trusted advisors and ambassadors by:
- Sharing perspective and institutional insight
- Strengthening community awareness of SAFEchild’s work
- Opening doors to relationships and opportunities
- Supporting fundraising and partnership efforts
- Helping preserve continuity across leadership transitions
Who Is Invited and Why Your Participation Matters
Initial membership includes former SAFEchild Board executive leaders across the organization’s history, and key SAFEchild stakeholders, representing multiple eras of leadership and community partnership. SAFEchild would not be where it is today without the leadership of those who came before. Your experience, credibility, and continued care for children and families remain invaluable.
Member Expectations
Service on the Legacy Council is designed to be meaningful but manageable.
Members are invited to engage in ways that align with their availability and interests.
Members Are Asked To
- Stay informed about SAFEchild’s work and priorities
- Serve as ambassadors in the community
- Offer introductions or connections when appropriate
- Provide perspective when requested
- Attend two annual Legacy Council gathering
- Make a personally meaningful annual gift
Commitment
- Three-year renewable terms
- Two annual gatherings
- Occasional updates and communication
- Optional engagement opportunities throughout the year
There are no standing committees or required monthly meetings. The council will be led by a Council Chair who will serve as the liaison to SAFEchild leadership. The Legacy Council supports SAFEchild’s mission but does not replace or duplicate the role of the Board of Directors. Governance and decision-making authority remains with the Board and Executive Director. This structure allows SAFEchild to benefit from decades of leadership experience while respecting members’ time and avoiding additional governance responsibilities.
