MOVE Program

A parent education program that empowers mothers to move
beyond domestic violence to a safer, happier future

MOVE (Mothers Overcoming Violence through Empowerment and Education) is for:

Mothers who have experienced domestic violence – emotional and/or physical abuse – in a relationship with a current or past intimate partner.

Groups are available for children who attend with their mom.

Program focus:

  • Increasing awareness of the adverse impact that domestic violence has on the mothers and their children.
  • Strengthening communication, anger management and positive discipline skills.
  • Learning the importance of safety planning.
  • Peer-to-peer group support, facilitated by a trained professional, that helps to reduce feelings of isolation, build self-esteem and reinforce positive parenting techniques.
Program details:
  • Length – Once a week for 13 weeks; each class is 2-1/2 hours.
  • Location – Various locations in Raleigh.
  • Day and time – Groups are Monday and Tuesday evenings.
  • CostNo charge
