PLUS Program

A parent education program that strengthens families
through better communication and cooperation

PLUS (Parents: Learning, Understanding, Sharing) is for:

All parents, with an emphasis on issues related to infants, toddlers and teens.

A separate group is available for children attending with their parents.

Program focus

Parents will  learn how to:

  • Communicate better, manage their anger and encourage cooperation.
  • Discipline their children effectively.
  • Talk with their children so they will listen and cooperate.
  • Build loving relationships with their children and appreciate their children’s viewpoints and opinions.
  • Use books as a way to engage their children.

Peer-to-peer group support, facilitated by a trained professional, helps to reduce feelings of isolation, build self-esteem and reinforce positive parenting techniques.


Young children and teens will learn how to:

  • Build their self-esteem.
  • Improve their interpersonal skills.
Program details

  • Length – Once a week for 12 weeks; each class is 2 hours
  • Locations – SAFEchild, 864 W. Morgan Street, Raleigh, and nearby community partners
  • Day and time – Daytime and evening groups are offered
  • Cost – No charge
